1. What SmartKourse is
SmartKourse is a marketplace. We run the website, the accounts, the checkout, and the video player. We do not make the courses. Think of us as the shop, not the author.
2. Who you are buying from
Every course here is created by an independent instructor. They are not our employees and we do not direct their teaching. They decide the subject, build the lessons, write the description, and set the price. When you buy a course, you are buying that instructor’s work through our platform.
3. What you actually get
- Digital access to course content — typically streaming video lessons, written material, and links the instructor provides.
- Nothing physical. There is no shipment, no disc, no printed book, and no delivery address.
- Access on the plan shown at checkout. A one-time purchase gives you access for as long as the course is offered; a subscription gives you access while it stays active and paid.
- A personal license to watch, not ownership. You cannot resell, share, or re-upload the content.
- Content that can change. Instructors update, reorganize, and occasionally retire courses, and lesson video often comes from third-party embeds, so specific lessons can change or become unavailable.
If a course offers a certificate, it records that you completed that course here. It is not accredited and it is not a professional credential.
4. Who takes your money
You pay SmartKourse. The charge appears on the SmartKourse platform account through Stripe, our payment processor. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us and not to the instructor — we never see or store your full card number.
Afterward, we pass the instructor’s share to them through Stripe Connect. That is an arrangement between us and the instructor; from your side it is a single transaction with SmartKourse.
5. What SmartKourse keeps
We keep a platform fee of 20% of the amount charged, or $5, whichever is greater. The rest is the instructor’s, less the Stripe processing fee, which is allocated to the instructor’s share in our accounting. This does not change the price you pay — the price shown at checkout is what you are charged. Full detail is in the Payout Disclosure.
6. When instructors get paid
Instructor earnings are held for 30 days after a sale before they are transferred out. That hold exists so refunds and card disputes can be settled from funds still on the platform. It is one reason we can process a valid refund cleanly.
Payout availability also depends on the instructor’s country and Stripe’s supported currencies. Instructors outside the United States and Canada are asked to verify support on Stripe’s list; if they join when their country is not supported, they — not learners — bear transfer and conversion fees. See the Payout Disclosure.
7. What SmartKourse is responsible for
- Running the platform: accounts, checkout, access, and the player.
- Granting the access you paid for, and fixing it when it fails.
- Handling refund requests under our own Refund Policy.
- Enforcing our content and conduct policies, including removing violations.
- Responding to copyright notices and privacy requests.
- Protecting your account data as described in our Privacy Policy.
8. What we are not responsible for
- The accuracy, quality, or completeness of an instructor’s teaching.
- Any result you hope to get from a course — a job, a raise, a client, an exam pass, or an income. Nobody here promises those.
- An instructor’s personal conduct, availability, or off-platform behavior.
- Third-party sites or tools a course links to.
- Whether a course meets a requirement set by an employer or regulator.
9. What we do and do not verify
We check that instructors complete identity verification through Stripe Connect before they can be paid, and we review listings against our Content Policy when they are reported or when something looks wrong.
We do not audit course content for accuracy, verify claimed degrees, employment history, or professional licenses, or test whether the teaching works. Treat instructor biographies as self-reported. We also do not promise that moderation catches everything or that we will review any particular listing within any particular time.
10. If something goes wrong
Contact us first — it is usually the fastest fix. You can request a refund within 30 days of a one-time purchase, and having already watched some of the course does not disqualify you. For subscriptions, cancelling stops future renewals but does not automatically refund the period you already paid for. Duplicate charges and paid-but-no-access problems are fixed regardless of timing. See the Refund Policy.
You also keep your right to dispute a charge with your bank. We do not punish good-faith disputes.
11. Disputes with an instructor
A disagreement about course content or an instructor’s conduct is primarily between you and that instructor, but you should still tell us. We can apply our policies, remove content that breaks them, and issue a refund where the Refund Policy supports it. What we cannot do is guarantee an instructor’s performance or act as your representative against them.
